I honestly don’t understand why people feel the need to make fun of hobby horsing. The amount of hate this sport gets compared to how much effort goes into it is actually crazy. People laugh, roll their eyes, or say “that’s just for little kids,” but the truth is — hobby horsing takes real dedication, strength, and passion.

We train. We push ourselves. We learn routines, we perfect techniques, we build confidence, and yes, we compete. It’s a sport that requires fitness, coordination, and creativity all at once. But because it doesn’t look like a “mainstream” sport, people think it’s a joke. The funny thing is — the ones laughing would probably never last through one of our training sessions.

Hobby horsing is underrated and unappreciated, but it’s also beautiful. It teaches discipline, it gives people a community, and it creates a safe space for those of us who love horses but might not have access to the real thing. And honestly? There’s nothing childish about chasing joy, about putting your heart into something you love. People who say it’s “for little kids” completely miss the point.

So yes, laugh all you want — but at the end of the day, hobby horsing is powerful. It’s real. And those of us who do it know the truth: this is a sport, a passion, and something worth taking seriously.
